Test Format and scoring pattern
Test Format (Structure/ Duration):
- The Listening Module is the first part of the exam.
- It takes approximately 30 minutes and consists of 4 parts.
- There are 10 questions in each section.
- You are given time to read the questions before you listen.
- You listen only once, while you listen you can note your answers on the question paper.
- You have 10 minutes time to transfer your answers onto the exam answer sheet. This is only applicable for Paper-based Tests.
The IELTS Listening component consists of four parts:
- PART 1: The recording is of a conversation between two speakers
in an everyday social situation.
- PART 2: The recording is of a monologue in an everyday social
situation.
- PART 3: The recording is of a conversation between two to four
people in an educational or training situation.
- PART 4: The recording is of a monologue on an academic subject.
A variety of tasks are used chosen from the following types: multiple-choice; short answer questions; sentence completion; notes/summary/diagram/flowchart/table completion; labeling a diagram; classification and matching.
Scoring Pattern (Band Chart):
For the listening test, which contains 40 questions, the approximate band scores can be calculated using this table.
